Hoodia itself caught my attention more than the actual diet did. After all, if Hoodia is as successful as Desert Labs says it is then maybe my skepticism is getting the far better of me. The flowering plant native to Africa comes in a selection of species; Hoodia gordonii is the 1 that has been touted as a weight loss aid (here at TIS, we first came across it in Burner Balm). After Ephedra was banned, folks had high hopes for Hoodia; everyone from 60 Minutes Lesley Stahl (who had no desire to eat or drink all day after consuming the plant) to BBC News promoted the phenomenal appetite suppressing qualities of this all-natural substance. Much of Hoodias reputation is based on the truth that South Africans have employed it for centuries to control hunger during lengthy treks into the desert.
